I took this photo in the fall of 2012 while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. It was one of those days where everything aligned perfectly: the light was beautifully defused and the river was as flat as a mirror. Little did I know back then just how many more times I would photograph this very scene years down the road. This photo was a turning point: it has opened doors for me. No pun intended, as I reflect on this image and what all it means to me personally, I like to remember the world is often not exactly as it seems. What we see is only the tip, there is so much below the surface that we have to work to discover and understand. This photo represents the culmination of hard work and dreams joining together to make something beautiful and uniquely mine. It reminds me of how far I have come but how much I still have to learn. I hope it brings you as much joy as it has brought me.
